Friendship — Friendship — Friendship |

Fun and Fellowship. That's one thing Sigma Phi Gamma members enjoy! Here are some stories of remarkable friendships that have formed across the country through SPG. NSH:
When I was working at the Credentials table several years ago I
met a member from California. I live in Indiana. Every day she came
to me to check-in. It was fun talking to her as I had never been
to California & it seemed like a DreamLand! :) By the end of the
week she was inviting my family & myself TO STAY WITH HER as the
next convention was in California! I was flattered but.. still...
to go in on someone for a week when we barely knew each other. I
thought it was great & hospitable but said we'd think about it.
At Christmas she called & said Are you coming out? WOW! I thought!
In the end we did drive our camper to CA and my husband & children
stayed there with her family a couple days while we went off to
Century City for convention! We have been fast friends ever since
& have visited there many times. She & another friend Betty Ann
came to our house and stayed after a convention in Indianapolis,
too. Talk
about FUN!!! One chapter rents a mountain cabin for a WEEKEND every
year & spends the weekend together! Talk about a Slumber Party!!!
They have a great time and look forward to it all year. Our
Provinces meet once a year and we have an International. Convention
once a year. Some Provinces have a social Round-Table. This is usually
a meal and a speaker or entertainment. We have had some really good
speakers about some timely and important topics. This gives the
members of that Province an opportunity to meet more than once a
year and they get to know each other better. Our
International conventions last 5 days in June or July. Last year
was in Ft. Worth, TX, this year it was in Nashville, TN, and next
years will be in Denver, CO. As you can see, we GET
AROUND!! :) There are some great friendships made and stories to
be told from these conventions! Lynnie:When
we had convention in Providence in 1996, I got to know Natalie R.,
who was the chairperson of the Convention. Since I was chairing
the 1997 Convention, I got to know Natalie by asking questions and
seeing what they did and how they they made their convention so
special. The next year Natalie made sure to contact me and from
then on, we were best of friends. I have visited Natalie twice during
the years and for the last two years, we have met in Las Vegas and
had some very good times. Because of soroity, I was able to make
a very special friend and see some beautiful parts of our country. Lou: Last year when I was the VIO to Omicron in Buffalo, NY, my daughter went with me. She became good friends with Patty D., the now Omicron Province President. Patty came to our Omega Province meeting this year and stayed with Beth and Beth went to the Omicron meeting in NY City this year. They are now really close friends and I have a new "daughter!" It was very suprising for us as Beth just wanted a couple of days away from school. Why else would anyone go to Buffalo in March instead of staying in FLorida? Now they plan on seeing each other twice a year if not, three times a year. |
